smARTist® TelesummitI have worked with Ariane Goodwin, the host and creator of the smARTist Telesummit for several years now. Each year she brings in experts to present a week long seminar on the business of art, from balancing your career and your home life or other job, to finding ways to license and/or copyright your art and how to approach a gallery or museum. If you had to travel to one of these seminars you would probably have to include air fare, motel, and food, but here you attend either the live telephone session or listen to an online recording of the session whenever you want. I can’t say enough about the worth of this program for any artist working to make a living at their craft.

I came across Alyson Stanfield thru the smARTist Telesummit.  She has written this wonderful book on the business of marketing your art.  I refer to it as my business "bible" if you will.  Step by step, Alyson lays out the road to marketing and managing your art.  All those things we artist hate to do, she breaks them down into an easy to follow format. All the excuses we have come up with for not handling our “business” are busted in the Artist’s Guide to Self Promotion.  What a wonderful teacher, and wonderful presenter she is.  If you can do one thing towards building your business this year, buy this book!

Paintwebs -  Marian Jackson, MDA is the webmaster extraordinaire.  She has a quote from Red Adair that says, “ If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.”  I was beyond an amateur, and lost when it came to anything to do with a website.  I signed up for two online template host and site builders, but didn’t like anything I found, then I found Marian.  She held my hand and walked me through the process of building a website. Worth every cent!  I am certain you will agree that my site is beautiful as well as functional.  As an artist I am thrilled to say that Marian is not only a gifted graphic designer, but a gifted artist also.  She has earned the title of Master Decorative Artist in the Society of Decorative Painters. That skill is applied to the website in her wonderful use of color and style. If you need a website built she is the one to call, hands down.
