Artist’s Sketch

Pamela Kingsley Seay has been creating all of her life from sawdust and Elmer’s glue sculptures in Nursery School, and award winning floral arrangements in Elementary School to designing and making her and her daughter’s own wedding dresses.  In the mid 70’s a college roommate took a “tole” painting class and Pam was hooked.  She moved to Georgia after college and began studying Priscilla Hauser’s books in her new home town of Perry.  In 1979 she moved to Danville, KY and began working with Deco Art.  Pam has been painting ever since then in acrylics and oils and now has discovered watercolors.

She joined the National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters (now SDP) in 1980, and the first chapter of NSTDP in the state of Kentucky began in her living room in the early 80’s.  Pam is a certified Ann Kingslan teacher, and a Helping Artist with Deco Art Acrylics. She has studied with many nationally known teachers in both decorative painting and fine art. (Mary Jo Leisure, Mary Jane Todd, Elizabeth Robbins Pruitt, Gloria Perkins, Jackie Shaw, Cathy Hillegas, and more)  She is also one of 70+ Tier Three Teachers in the new DecoArt Traditions Artist Acrylic’s Traditions Education Program where she will focus on watercolor instruction.  She is a member of the Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts, and is a juried member of the Kentuckiana Watercolor Society and the Louisville Artisans Guild. Pam has been teaching painting for over 30 years in between raising her two children and teaching in public schools.

Pam and a friend painted a life size horse in the Gallopalooza Sidewalk Derby (during Kentucky Derby Festival celebration in 2005), and the horse, “Gitti Up Gals” was voted 3rd most popular in the Louisville Courier Journal’s contest.  In 2007 Pam’s watercolor painting, “Jeremiah, the Tennessee Bullfrog”, was juried into Aqueous ( a national competition sponsored by Kentuckiana Watercolor Society). In 2008 she held a one woman show at the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center in the Louisville Artisans Guild space.  She was then invited to join forces with Bliss Gallery and Gifts (a shop in Louisville, KY).  Most recently Pam's painting of her dog Heidi was featured in “The Decorative Painter”, published by the Society of Decorative Painters (Summer 2009 issue).  Pam’s work can be seen online and at several area galleries.

Pam works from a studio/gallery in her southern Indiana home.  She does several art shows each year in addition to her gallery presence and online business. She also does some commission work and personalization of the folk art pieces.  Contact Pam for more information.
